Things seem to moving along pretty quickly as newly charged excitement descends on the LA River, focusing on our neck of the woods.

This is great for those in Atwater Village, particularly north Atwater (Where you'll find The Mews) that has easy access to the river and bike path at North Atwater Park.

It will be just south of North Atwater Park, which is right by us!

It seems our overly concerned neighbors over yonder in Silver Lake have been griping about what this new bridge in the queue is going to be.

Is it the right style for a neighborhood mostly of bungalow homes? The neighbors will complain that it'll be lit up at night! Why does it have to be so tall? Horses? Are you kidding me?

OK, I'll take these on, one by one.

First, although located in Atwater Village, this will be an LA bridge. Sleek, modern and iconic for a forward thinking city (which you may or may not agree on with that point). Regardless, it will be a bridge for the 21st century and beyond.

You think we'll complain about it being lit up at night? Sorry, but we'll enjoy the lights, and they sure as heck won't bother anyone. We also enjoy our views into downtown LA from various points at The Mews, nobody over there are turning off the lights at night.

It's going to be an iconic bridge, and a statement in it's own right. Who cares how tall it is? Hopefully taller than the power lines! BTW- back in the old-timey days, Beacon Hill in Griffith Park which faces The Mews used to have, well, a beacon on top to warn pilots of the mountain top. That was much higher up than any bridge will reach.

Lastly, Atwater Village is an equestrian district with nearly 700 horses in our village. This bridge has been a dream approaching 20 years for the horse folks as it is very dangerous for them to cross the rocky river to get to the trails at Griffith Park. I'm excited to see this important part of our local culture getting what they've been wanting for a very long time. C'mon Silver Lakers, you won't even see this bridge from where you are, let alone use it.

Cooler and greater things just keep coming to our neck of the woods, and we love them all!

And The Winner is.....US!

The goal is to create urban community forests throughout LA neighborhoods, and we are very fortunate to have one of their members, Torin Dunnavant, also serving as Co-Chair on the Atwater Village Neighborhood Council.

This was kind of a mandatory program for me (although lots of fun and lots of food!) since one of my goals is a parkway forest along Perlita Avenue near The Mews, extending down the block where no man's land ends, and civilization once again fills the void. This workshop teaches how to accomplish this from start to finish.

RLG Properties core philosophy is to leave a neighborhood better than we found it, and we have already excelled in leaps and bounds with crime, gentrification, beautification and creating a sense of space and community place.

And guess what? This is also what community forests do! Over the next few weeks, Torin and I will put together and design a pilot program of tree planting and landscaping and urban forests that can work throughout Atwater Village. This program will have an emphasis on water conservation with self sustaining eco-systems, and really really nice trees. Hey, they don't call them the Tree People for nothing.

We're passionate about Atwater Village and will continue doing great things for all the wonderful folks who enjoy living, working and playing here.

I would highly recommend this workshop to everyone of all ages, lots of fun!!
