More Goin’ Green Mews News
Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 4:03PM Today I want to mention a few things about our flooring.
First, all the lower floors will have a polished concrete. This not only looks great, but it is easy to maintain and is a perfect topic for green construction.
Why Is Stained Concrete Eco-Friendly?
First of all we’re eliminating some type of floor coating and/or flooring material and less is always more with green construction. Secondly, the concrete is already being used as structure so why not use it to serve the purpose of a finished floor surface. Also, there will be no VOC (volatile organic compounds) emissions from a stained concrete floor compared to a floor treated with some type of epoxy coating. This improves your indoor air quality.
Now let’s head upstairs…
Bamboo flooring throughout. Our dark stained bamboo floors are also a renewable product. Where oak takes 120 years to grow to maturity, bamboo can be harvested in three.
This flooring is recognized as a green material under LEED and as they said in Environmental Building News, “Environmentally, it’s hard to argue with a wood substitute that matures in three years, regenerates without need for replanting, and requires minimal fertilization or pesticides.”

Add another check mark for building sustainable, eco-friendly homes!
